Dubai : DEWA bags three Golden Globe Tigers Awards

Three Golden Globe Tigers Awards had been won by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) for being a leader in sustainable practices. The awards was given in a special ceremony in Malaysia for Best Renewable Resources in Energy, Green Building, and Sustainable Transport.

According to HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, achieving three awards at the Golden Globe Tigers Awards 2016 proves the success and commitment to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktom, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This achievement also prove stheir commitment to the UAE vision 2021 and the Dubai Plan 2021, which includes a clear roadmap of ambitious initiatives and development projects that combine economic development with the sustainability of energy and eco-friendly environment.

He also explained that three smart initiatives has been launched by DEWA in line with the Smart Dubai Initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Each of the initiatives has its own goal, such as Shams Dubai to connect solar energy to buildings, Smart Applications through Smart Meters and Grids, and the Green Charger to establish the infrastructure and building of electric vehicle charging stations. This three initiatives aim to make Dubai the ‘smartest’ city in the world.

Al Tayer emphasized the eco-friendly sustainable building construction in AL Quoz for supporting the Green Economy and Sustainable Development initiatives to build a green economy and drive sustainable development. With less than 66% energy consumption and 48% less water consumption in comparison to other buildings and adopting the international green buildings standards, DEWA’s sustainable building is stated to be the largest government building in the world to meet the green building platinum certification from LEED by USGBC.
