Dubai: World’s First 3D Printed Building Unveiled

The world’s first 3D printed office building has been unveiled in Dubai. The ‘Building of the Future’ is a temporary office for the Dubai Future Foundation.

ABB, a leader in power an automation, provided electrical and control systems for the project. Mike Mustapha, head of ABB’s Building Products business expressed that ABB is proud to have has a part in such a landmark project.

The printing was done in a 20 ft high, 120 ft long and 40ft wide 3D printer that makes use of a special cement mixture. The process of printing took only two weeks to complete. The building reduces energy consumption thanks to innovative features.

ABB provided lighting and lighting control, earthing, over-voltage protection, as well as all wiring and cable management systems. Within the building users have control over brightness, colour, and mood of the lighting, all controllable via tablet. The lighting control offers energy efficiency up to 25% higher than than non-automated systems.
