Dubai’s City Centre Me’aisem mall has been named the ‘Green Commercial Building of the Year’ of the MENA region. The building earned the first Platinum LEED certification of the region. It boasts 325,000 sq ft of floorspace, translating to 23,850 sq m of leasable area. The construction has extensive sustainability measures, accessibility, and a premium finish. The mall, owned by the company Majid Al Futtaim, is strategically located in the growth corridor of Dubai

For the fourth year running, the Emirates GBC Awards Gala Dinner honoured projects and companies that incorporated sustainable design, construction, and operation of buildings and structures.

Among the attendants to the event were members of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, and members of the World, Jordan, Qatar, and Lebanon Green Building Councils.

Hamad Al Lawati, community mall manager of Shopping Malls for Majid Al Futtaim Properties mentioned that the mall won the award due to its continued efforts in maintaining responsible energy standards and fantastic environmental design.

Al Lawati also remarked that the company is proud to have their innovative practices and sustainability efforts recognised. He added that Majid Al Futtaim aims to deliver more environmentally efficient buildings, which deliver added economic and social benefits to communities and visitors.

Finally, he added that the community lifestyle mall was build in line with Majid Al Futtaim’s vision of sustainability. The building features a “bionest” water recycling system, the UAE’s first solar lighting panel in its parking area, a reflective roof membrane that reduces solar gain, LEED-compliant lights, and water saving taps.  Finally, more than 83 percent of all construction elements were sourced from recycled material.
