Abu Dhabi : Reem Mall Recieves Estidama 2 Pearl Design Rating

The Reem Mall in Abu Dhabi has been awarded the Estidama 2 Pearl Design Rating for sustainability by the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council.

Developed by NREC and UPAC, and strategically positioned within the new master planned residential and commercial zone, Reem Mall has been designed with highly efficient building standards that minimise overall energy use. These energy efficient practices include: the careful study and design of the walls, roof, and glazing; insulation; an extensive use of eco-friendly materials; and high efficiency air conditioning and lighting systems.

The designer made water consumption one of the key considerations for the building design in order to reduce the consumption of potable water in the building, and implemented water efficient irrigation systems and appliances into the design.

The building will recycle a minimum of 70% of the waste generated, and 20 percent of materials will be obtained from sources within 310 miles of the site, reducing travel distance and related air pollution.

According to  Shane Eldstrom, Chief Operating Officer for Reem Mall, Reem Mall is committed to eco-friendly sustainability, the goals of the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, and the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. From the outset, Reem Mall aims to exceed the guidelines set by the UPC and achieve well above the minimum requirements.

Located on Al – Reem Island, the mall is expected to open in 2018.
