Abu Dhabi : Estidama Pearl Rating for Etihad Rail

The Estidama 2 Pearl Construction Rating by the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) has been awarded to the city’s national railway developer and operator Etihad Rail for seven sustainable buildings at its depot. Located in Mirfa, Al Gharbia, it is one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects undertaken in the UAE.

The award given to Etihad Rail shows recognition for their sustainability commitments from the project’s initial design phase until final tests. The achievements undertaken by Etihad Rail include a 31 per cent energy saving at one of the administration facilities as well as water saving initiatives, resulting in the reduction of more than 10 per cent in potable water consumption for all the buildings. The project also exceeded the minimum recycling target that includes more than 80 per cent of its construction waste collected, transported and disposed of to reduce environmental impacts.

According to Eng. Faris Saif Al Mazrouei, CEO of Etihad Rail, the project aims to become a regional leader in sustainable and transport design as well as in construction and operations, while noting that sustainability is a key consideration at every stage of Etihad Rail development. In line to support Abu Dhabu Vision 2030, Etihad Rail has committed in the best sustainability practices to implement for all their current and future projects.

H.E Falah Al Ahbabi, UPC Director General added that Etihad Rail is one of the critical component in achieving urban growth in support of Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The UPC is very pleased to give the 2 pearls rating award to seven buildings in the depot. The collaboration shows the strategic relationship between UPC and Etihad Rail to achieve Abu Dhabi’s urban sustainable vision.
