Qatar : Green building pilot projects


Qatar’s hospitality sector may receive more benefit from initiatives by making hotels and other buildings sustainable. The pilot project, studying on the ‘indoor environmental quality’ of buildings, will focus specifically on the well-being of its occupants and tenants.

According to Meshal AL-Shamari, Managing Director of Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), other than applying the old idea of water conservation and electricity efficiency, the pilot project will emphasize the advantages of green buildings. Air quality, noise levels, energy and water consumption, recycling, and facility management are several factors that should meet the minimum requirement identification.

Qatar Green Building Council stated that they are ready to help any hotel willing to adopt a green building & sustainability experiment. Baytna Project, The Qatar Passivhaus and one of Qatar’s first sustainable housing project, is aiming to reduce 50% of energy usage in residential housing sector.
