UAE : two categories awarded for DEWA at Asian Smart Cities Awards 2015

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) won two categories at Asian Smart Cities Awards 2015 for ‘Smart Utilities Initiative’ and ‘Smart Technology for Smart City’.

According to Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Dewa, they were implementing ‘Shams Dubai’, ‘Smart Applications via Smart Grid and Meters’ and ‘Green Charger’, the three key of schemes. With these recognition, it shows that Dewa is progressing in smart infrastructure for electricity and water. This achievement will contribute towards Dewa’s sustainable growth and reduce Dubai’s carbon foot print.

To reduce demand and achieve energy efficiency, Al Tayer also mentioned that the smart grid initiative is the key step in the implementation of the Distributed Renewable Resources Generation (DRRG) programme.

According to Waleed Salman, Dewa executive VP of Strategy and Business Development, this smart grid strategy contains nine programmes and will hopefully be completed between 2015 and 2035.
