Dubai : MENA region’s highest LEED certification for its green building project

Spanning 117,600 sq ft in area, the “Techno-Point” facility, located in the integrated free zone technology park in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), is the first pilot green building project that has received the LEED Existing Buildings : Operation & Maintenance (EBOM) Platinum rating certification.

Dubai’s Techno-Point building obtained points on the LEED EBOM platinum rating scale by achieving more than 66% reduction in single occupant vehicles while also saving up water of up to 82% by using low flush and low flow fixtures.

This pilot green building project has also registered for an examplary energy performance score of 86 on the Energy Star portfolio manager based on the building’s electricity consumption. Techno-Point also focuses on the use of 100% sustainable material and resources to ensure optimum indoor eco-friendly quality for the building’s occupants.

According to Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the chairman of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), achieving the LEED’s certification with the highest score in MENA region adds to DSOA’s previous milestones that are aligned with the building’s commitment to  promote innovation and sustainability within the area. It’s proven that such efforts have had a contribution to put UAE in the 8th position among the top 10 countries with the largest LEED certified spaces.

Dr Mohammed Alzarooni, Vice Chairman and CEO of DSOA, also added that by achieving 85 out of 110 points in the coveted Platinum rating level, Techno-point is the highest rated LEED building in MENA region so far.
