A step-by-step solar power guide to reduce electricity bills

solar panel installation

As part of its first smart initiative, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has outlined easy steps to install photovoltaic (PV) systems in homes and buildings to generate solar power. The initiative aims to encourage household and building owners to install PV panels to generate electricity, and connect them to DEWA’s grid. The electricity is used on site and the surplus is sent back to DEWA’s network. Here are the steps:

  • The installation process starts with the customer contacting one of DEWA’s accredited consultants or contractors to study the possibility of installing the PV system while suggesting the best solution.
  • The consultant or contractor then obtains the necessary approvals from Dewa. These approvals comprise of an NOC for installing solar energy system and connecting it to the power network, as well as for the solar system design that meets all the requirements.
  • After obtaining the necessary approvals, the consultant or contractor undertakes on-site work at the house or building.
  • After completing installation, they will submit a notification to DEWA to conduct some technical inspection of the site and install the meter to complete the connection process.

By installing a PV system, this will not only generate clean energy which would help reduce electricity bills, but also increase property value, protect the environment, support Dubai’s economy, and guarantee a sustainable future for the Emirate.
