Dubai : First hotel on Palm Jumeirah to receive Green Key Certification

Fairmont the Palm

Since its opening in December 2012, Fairmont Hotel The Palm has become the first hotel on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah to receive a Green Key Certification as it has proved to reduce 40% of hotel and energy waste.

Mark Sawkins, General Manager of Fairmont The Palm, commented during the awarding ceremony that “Fairmont The Palm is a model for sustainable performance in the city” due to its continuous implementation of sustainability initiatives and greening operations.

The Green Key award is a prestigious citation that underlines sustainable energy, water, and waste management for hotels, service apartments and other accommodation facilities, as explained by Saeed Al Abbar, the Chairman of the Emirates Green Building Council (EGBC).

The hospitality industry plays a prominent role in the UAE and it is important that the sector recognizes their responsibility towards sustainability. Saeed Al Abbar took the pleasure in awarding Fairmont Hotel The Palm for its Green Key Certification as the hotel had shown major efforts towards sustainable operations and green awareness activities.
